Thomas Alva Edison

Edison was born February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He was the youngest child in his family and spent most of his childhood in Port Huron, Michigan. As a child, he was home schooled by his mother and he was interested in science and technology.
His first job was as a candy butcher on a train, around this time he began inventing. Edison would later grow up |
to become a tramp telegrapher during the Civil War. He would become a full time inventor and one of America's first celebrities. He was nicknamed the "Wizard of Menlo Park" after his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. Some of his most well-known inventions include the phonograph, the kinetograph (to make films), and the electric lamp. He would also design New York City's Electric System.
Edison would later move to Orange County, New Jersey to continue inventing. He would have a new laboratory built called the West Orange Laboratory, and would live with his family in the Glenmont Estate.

On October 18, 1931 Thomas Edison died at the age of 84 due to various health problems.
